Blogging from Down Under

365 days in pictures (and some words)

This week is a week of 1sts.
I’ve had a 1st blogiversary, my gorgebag nephew had his 1st birthday and now today is my 1 year anniversary of touching down on Aussie soil to start a new chapter of my life in Melbourne.

I remember this time last year well, it was very busy one.

Gorgebag nephew decided to cut it so fine with his arrival that he finally came into this world on the very same day I flew out to Australia giving me just a few hours to rush down to see him in hospital before heading straight to the airport and jetting off to a land Down Under Read more…

A Miserable night.

It has been a week now since mum and sis left Australia and I am missing them a lot. I really enjoyed their time here and we did some fab stuff while they were here.
On one particular night, the plan was to pop along to the cinema to go and watch that well known comedy ‘Les Miserables’.

I had been looking forward to going to see it for ages as I have never seen it on stage before but know many of the songs word for word having sung pretty much all of them when I was in the school choir. I really should have been on the stage, I clearly missed my vocation you know! Anyway, I had been trying in vain to get husb to come with me but to no avail, as he ‘doesn’t do musicals’. So I was so happy when sis and mum were as excited about going to see it as me.

We headed off to the cinema stupidly early leaving husb to babysit the Bear and nephew in law. We had bought our tickets way in advance so all we needed to do was turn up, get our cinema snacks and go and watch the film.

Fast Track Friends

A few days ago my lovely New Zealand friend moved out of Melbourne and back to Sydney. We hugged and said our weepy farewells while our respective children, stood staring each other out in some sort of stand off at the O.K Corral. As we waved them off I got to thinking about how different my friendships have been since moving here.

I mean I have only known New Zealand friend for a few short months, but in that time, we have really got to know each other, taking day trips, going for nights out, helping each other out practically whenever we have needed it and generally enjoying and exploring Melbourne life together. It has been really natural, not forced in any way, I’m really going to miss her and I know that we will be staying in touch even though she is no longer 10 minutes up the road. I have my first visit already in the diary.

Chuck another shrimp on the barbie!

So we finally got round to getting a proper aussie barbecue.
Husb had to go on a specific barbecue shopping trip this time to Bunnings Warehouse, which is like B&Q in the UK. This was to minimise any instances of getting waylaid with my buying, shoes, clothes, umbrellas, t-shirts – anything I could lay my hands on really. There’s not many opportunities to buy that sort of stuff there!

The plan worked, we went for a barbecue to a shop in the middle of nowhere and a barbecue we came away with!

This ain’t no run of the mill barbecue either no no, this is the Jumbuck Chef 4 Burner BBQ no less

Check her out – she’s a beauty isn’t she?

Far from home

I did have another post that I was all set to publish today, it was one about our weekend. I think I will save that one for another time though.

It just didn’t feel right posting it the way that I am feeling today. It doesn’t reflect my mood at this very moment as I write this. It would just be another story of something that we did which is all well and good but not right for today.

While I started my blog as a journal to chronicle our Australian adventures, big and small. And as a diary of memories for the Bear to read in the future being too young now to remember his time as a ‘Little Aussie Nipper’. I also started blogging as an outlet for my thoughts and feelings so that I could look back on it and remember what the whole experience actually felt like at the time and I suppose to help me through the times when I am finding it tough.
